What's going on Japan?

These days, there are fulfilled with the news that about missing person who is over 100 years old.

Now, there are more than 40,000 people who are more than 100 years old in Japan. According to the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare's press release, there are 40,399 people who are more than 100 years old in Japan. (as of 1st September, 2009)

There are really many aged people in Japan. I felt so strongly, when I heard this number.

But...

Back to the news article.
According to the news, there are 18 people who are missing these years.

The news started with the news that 111 years old man found dead in his house in Tokyo. He was living with his family but his family didn't submit the death report to the city office. According to the news, the family might got pension illegally for about 30 years.

Japanese Health Minister Akira Nagatsuma announced that they will start to interview with more than 110 years old people.

I felt the relationship in family are becoming less and less...

Thank you.

I would say each family has its own hardship that others would not really understand. There must be a story behind the event.

I agree with you, but I think it really sad story that the family didn't know their family's life and death for several years.
