Fireworks

In Japan there are many places that hold fireworks display especially in Summer. Today there were 3 places that we could watch fireworks in Tokyo. Sumidagawa, Tachikawa and Hachioji. One of the most famous place where we could watch fireworks today was Sumidagawa. But my house is not near in Sumidagawa and I can watch other fireworks from my house. Then I enjoyed watching fireworks from my house. I'm living in Hachioji and there was fireworks display today too. Hachioji is located in west side of Tokyo and over 500,000 of people are living there. Fireworks display in Hachioji is part of "Hachioji matsuri (festival)". It is not so famous and its scale is not so big. But I could enjoy it from my house.

Unfortunately, my house is not so near from the launch place. Then fireworks in photo and video is small. Please mention it.

Sebum-blotting hanky

Do you know sebum-blotting paper? It is very famous souvenirs in Kyoto. Many women buy it when they go to Kyoto. But it is paper so, we can't reuse it. I think, it is not good for environment and my purse.

But don't worry, I found sebum-blotting hanky. This fabricated hanky have same function of sebum-blotting paper. Also this hanky can wash and reuse it. It is good for environment and my purse.
Today, I used one of them its hand feeling like usual hanky. Of course, it blotted skin sebum. But I can't analyze my hanky so, it may not blotted skin sebum... I hope hanky blotted skin sebum.

Marine day

Yesterday was Umi no Hi. "Umi" means sea, "Hi" means day. So we can say it in English "Sea day". But I think, "Marine day" is better than "Sea day". "Marine day" is national holiday. And most of Japanese students are now in Summer holidays. So, many people go to family trip in this day and season. Then, traffic ties-up on expressways. It happened even when the gasoline prices are increasing.

Anyway, most of Japanese students are now in Summer holidays like I said. But some students like me are not in Summer holidays yet. These days, high temperature is really high and I don't think it is good to study in such a hot day. But we must study...:(

Yesterday's high temperature in Kyoto was 37.5 degrees (Celcius). It was the highest high temperature in this year.Of course, Tokyo's high temperature was over 30 degrees (Celcius). Tokyo's high temperature was over 30 degrees (Celcius) for 10 days. 10 days! Can you believe it?

I hope the summer holidays will come to me soon...

Pokemon Shinkansen

(image from: East Japan Railway Company's HP)

East Japan Railway Company and All Nippon Airways are now in campaign. You can ride very unique vehicle if you are lucky. Maybe I can't ride these unique vehicle because I have any plan to go with these vehicles.

Pokemon is very famous Japanese animation and video game among kids still. Pokemon was very famous animation and video game even when I was elementary school student (about 10 years ago). Maybe some people know about Pokemon.

You can meet these Pokemon Shinkansen between 19th July and 15th September. Most of Japanese elementary schools and Junior high schools are in summer holidays. So, they decided to do this campaign I think.

If you have a chance to use Tohoku shinkansen, Akita shinkansen, Yamagata shinkansen, Joetsu shinkansen or Nagano shinkansen, please check it. Also you can check unique vehicle in air port. ANA (All Nippon Airways) is ready to use two types of Pokemon jet. These are Pikachu jumbo and Ohana jumbo.

More information check JR-east HP and ANA HP. But these pages are written in Japanese.

End of rainy season

Today, Japan Meteorological Agency announced that all area of Japan ended rainy season. Now, time is summer. It's really hot! Today's the highest temperature in Tokyo was 33.0 degrees (Celsius). Some people believe that some area will mark over 40 degrees as highest temperature in this summer. Maybe I can't survive without air conditioner if my town's highest temperature mark over 40 degrees... :(

I think, this crazy temperature is one of the effects of global warming. We need to act! Say "NO" to plastic bags. I'm trying now. I said twice today... :)
Our small act will be big movement (maybe).

Thanks

Today, I wanna say thank you to all of my web log readers. This is No.101 article. Yes I posted over 100 articles. Thank you.

And I wanna say thank you to Hideo Nomo. Do you know Hideo Nomo? He is baseball player who played in MLB and NPB. NPB is Japan's professional baseball league. He started his career from NPB Osaka Kintetsu. His delivery style was very unique and people called his style as "tornado delivery". On Thursday, he retired. Over 10 years ago, he decided to challenge to MLB. I remember that many Japanese surprised when he did perfect game in MLB.

When he went to MLB, I bought Los Angeles Dodgers's cap. Photo on top is the one. I still remember the TV commercial message that said "No~mo, Hide~yo". I like that commercial message. Maybe, most of Japanese still remember... LOL

Anyway, he is really famous as pioneer who tell us that Japanese can play in MLB. He is the real "pioneer". Thank you!
I hope he will become the good supervisor in Japan someday.

Do you need "one-seg" TV?

Do you know "one-seg"? It is the function that we can see TV with portable devices in Japan. We can watch digital TV on mobile phone easily, even when we are in outside. And most of Japanese mobile phone have "one-seg" function on them.

On Friday, some people got iPhone 3G in Japan. I heard 1,500 people got lined up in front of retail store in Omotesando, Tokyo. In Omotesando, SoftBank decided to sell iPhone 3G the fastest in Japan. Then many people went there. I wanna get iPhone but I don't wanna wait long time. Then, I may get it in September or later. LOL
Some news casters said like " We can't watch TV on iPhone. This is one of the weak points of iPhone.". I think, we don't need "one-seg" in iPhone. Because there are no program that I wanna watch even when I'm in outside. iPhone have big screen but most of Japanese mobile phone have very small screen. I might not enjoy watching football games on these mobile phones. Maybe it is hard to watch football games on Japanese mobile phone. I need more big screen!

HDD clock

On 4th June, I and my friend started to make HDD clock. Photo on left is HDD that we decided to break. First, we didn't need any special tools to break it. We used only Phillips-head screw driver. But w
e got problem. We couldn't break it without special tools. Then, we went to one coin shop near our school to buy special tools and clock module. We found it in one coin shop then, I bought it but...
I couldn't use it because this tool was not suitable for this HDD's screws. We needed other type of special tool. Then I went to one coin shop again to buy other type of special tool. That tool was suitable for HDD's screws but we couldn't use it for every screws. So, we stopped breaking HDD.
A few weeks later, my friend found other type of special tool that will suitable for HDD's screws. Then we tried it. We could use it only
for one screw... The HDD had 3 more screws... But new special tool was not suitable for these screws. Then my friend bought other type of special tool. Then we tried it. We could use it for rest of screws.

Finally, we needed to use 4 special tools to break HDD. And we paid for it about 1000 yen (about US$ 10).
This is what we've made. HDD clock! (Photo on right) I took some photos while we were making this HDD clock and I upload it to my web page. So, if you have a time, please check it! My web page is here.

Thank you for your reading! Thanks Hidetoshi!

Studying English for Eiken

Now, I decided to try to get Eiken pre-1st grade. Maybe I'll try to get it in October. In October, we have the Eiken test. Eiken is one of most famous English test in Japan. But I don't think it is important measurement to know my English ability. TOEIC test is better than Eiken I think. But I will try. Because I have 2nd grade but its level is not high. If you have graduated Japanese senior-high school, you can get it. Pre-1st grade's level is junior college level in Japan. And 1st grade's level is university level. I don't think it is easy to get 1st grade. But I'll get it someday. LOL

Anyway, I have tried to get pre-1st grade twice. Both time I couldn't pass the 1st test. If I can pass 1st test, I have to pass speaking test (2nd test). I'm keep studying English to get it. But I think, it is not good way to study English for test, like I wrote before. I'm studying English to communicate with people all over the world. I think, I must not forget this purpose.
But I'll take Eiken 1st grade someday. LOL

Before I'll take Eiken pre-1st grade, I can tell you my score of TOEIC that I had in June. I think, I couldn't take high score in TOEIC. :( But I'll tell you my score in this web log.

Thank you for your reading!
